Fidji Simo Shifts to Part-Time Role at OpenAI
Fidji Simo, who recently took on the role of leading OpenAI's ambitious project on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), has decided to step down from her full-time position. She will now serve as a part-time advisor to the company. Simo shared this update on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
This change comes after Simo announced in April that she needed to take medical leave because of a neuroimmune condition, a health issue affecting the nervous and immune systems. Her decision to reduce her workload reflects a focus on managing her health while still contributing to OpenAI's mission.
Health Challenges Affecting OpenAI Leadership
Simo is not the only top executive at OpenAI making adjustments due to health or personal reasons. Around the same time, Brad Lightcap, OpenAI's Chief Operating Officer, stepped down from his role to concentrate on special projects within the company. Additionally, Kate Rouch, OpenAI’s Chief Marketing Officer, also stepped back to focus on her health. She plans to return in a more limited capacity once she feels ready.
